Penn Trade Reel Kingfisher Similarities 1933
« on: January 18, 2025, 02:30:51 PM »
I picked up what I believe to be a Penn Trade Reel "Kingfisher" Sold at Edward Tyron Co. in 1933. I don't have any documents but I'm sure a 1933 or 34 Catalog might help. :D

I've seen the molds for this Kingfisher Logo next to a Schultz Fire Island, Coronado, Newport, Senator, and many others. The original dye plugs when I was buying and researching Penn in 2007/2009. I had a Kingfisher reel back then but it didn't have the (K) on the inside of the plate. That same (K) can be found on many 1933 reels including the Seahawk and Longbeach. I was told this refers to Kuhn? Here is all the Pictures of the Kingfisher and other examples of the Seahawk, the Long Beach, and the Otto Henze patent.

These images are from old posts I made around 2008. I don't have the originals. Bare with me. :D
The Long Beach Models I owned. The 3rd one had the (K) I was going to collect one from each year. :D

Here is the Seahawk which it closely resembles with the (K)

This one had the dome Clicker 1932/33 issue same as Model F and K.

Otto Henze Patent

This is the Patent for Godshalk of Ocean City Mfg. Co. - Take a look at these guts, look familiar?
They sure did work around everyones improvements and patents.

This forum is to see other Penn reels that resemble these. If you find any, please share!

Looks to me the Henze  Patent is for the Reel design itself having elongated end bearings and only 4 side plate screws ( NEED TO GET THE PATENT INFO ANBD READ IT ) as to the Ocean City with 6 and no free wheel on Henze but a rather unique Free Wheel on the Ocean city in which the entire Bridge Pivots moving the Main Gear away from the Pinion which can also be seen on Many other Reels of the Time like Clark,HI ,Wilson ,Winchester, and others .
The Weird Ass K might not be a K at all but rather a makers mark of the company that made those plates for various companies in the day as I don't think PENN made their own until later .
